Everything you need to know about urban farming with metrofarm360.
Metro farming (or urban farming) is the practice of growing food in and around cities and towns — on rooftops, terraces, balconies, and indoors. Instead of depending entirely on food transported from distant farms, metro farming lets households and businesses grow fresh vegetables, herbs, and microgreens right where they live and work. metrofarm360 specialises in setting up these systems in Dindigul and surrounding areas.
metrofarm360 is a Dindigul-based urban and metro farming company. We design, install, and maintain rooftop gardens, kitchen gardens, microgreen setups, and more. We also offer training workshops, farm consultancy, and value addition services. Our mission is simple: help every household and institution in Dindigul grow their own food responsibly.
Not at all. Most of our customers start with zero farming experience. We handle the entire design and setup, and we train you on how to care for your farm after installation. Our AMC (Annual Maintenance Contract) visits also mean you always have expert support close by if you need it.
We primarily serve Dindigul city and surrounding towns including Palani, Kodaikanal road areas, Natham, Oddanchatram, and Vedasandur. If you are outside these areas, please contact us — we evaluate each request individually and can often make arrangements for nearby regions.
The cost depends on the size of the space, the type of farm, and the plants you want to grow. A basic kitchen garden starts from around ₹5,000–₹12,000. A full rooftop garden setup typically ranges from ₹30,000 to ₹1,50,000 depending on area and infrastructure. We provide a detailed quote after a free site visit with no obligation to proceed.
There is no strict minimum. A kitchen garden can start with just a windowsill or 20–30 sq ft of balcony space. For microgreens, even a small table indoors works. Rooftop gardens work best with at least 100 sq ft of open space. During our site visit we assess your available space and suggest the most productive layout for it.
A kitchen garden or microgreen setup is typically completed within 1–3 days. A mid-sized rooftop garden usually takes 5–10 working days. Larger farms with custom irrigation, vertical structures, or LED lighting systems may take 2–4 weeks. We provide a clear timeline during the quotation stage so you know exactly what to expect.
We take structural safety very seriously. During our site visit we assess the load-bearing capacity of your rooftop and design the garden accordingly. We use lightweight grow bags, cocopeat-based media (which is much lighter than soil), and elevated structures that distribute weight evenly. We do not install anything that exceeds safe structural limits for your building.
Yes. We provide a 3-month workmanship warranty on all installations. This covers any structural or installation defects. Consumables such as plants, seeds, and growing media are not covered as they are living materials subject to care and climate conditions. We also offer AMC plans that extend ongoing support beyond the warranty period.
Dindigul's warm, semi-arid climate is well suited for a wide range of crops. Year-round performers include spinach, kale, coriander, fenugreek, curry leaves, chilli, brinjal, tomato, beans, and all leafy greens. Microgreens like radish, sunflower, and wheatgrass grow excellently in any season. Seasonal crops such as cucumber, bitter gourd, and drumstick grow well in cooler months. We create crop plans tailored to each season and your preferences.
Yield varies by crop and farm type. A typical 100 sq ft rooftop garden can produce 4–8 kg of vegetables per week once fully established. A microgreen tray (30x60cm) yields 200–400g of fresh microgreens every 10–14 days. We provide realistic yield estimates for your specific setup during the design phase so you can plan accordingly.
Yes — we are committed to 100% organic methods. We use organic fertilisers, bio-pesticides, neem-based sprays, and companion planting for pest management. We never recommend or use synthetic chemical pesticides or artificial growth hormones. Your produce is as clean and safe as it gets.
Far less than you might think. Cocopeat-based growing media retains moisture very efficiently, and drip irrigation systems we install deliver water directly to the root zone with minimal waste. Our farms typically use 70–90% less water than equivalent in-ground soil farming. For a 100 sq ft rooftop garden, daily water use is roughly 10–20 litres — similar to watering a few indoor plants.
An AMC is a scheduled maintenance plan where our team visits your farm periodically (monthly or quarterly) to inspect plants, check irrigation, top up nutrients, manage pests, and replant if needed. It is not mandatory, but we strongly recommend it for customers who are new to farming or have busy schedules. AMC customers consistently get better yields and fewer crop failures. Pricing starts from ₹1,500 per visit.
With a drip irrigation system installed, daily time commitment is minimal — typically 10–20 minutes for checking plants, harvesting, and any hand-watering of new seedlings. Without drip irrigation, manual watering twice a day takes about 20–30 minutes. We design farms to be manageable for people with busy lifestyles — and AMC visits handle the intensive tasks like replanting and pest treatments.
We supply everything you need. You can order seeds, cocopeat, nutrients, grow bags, and other supplies directly from us. We source quality-tested inputs at reasonable prices and deliver to your location in Dindigul. Many AMC customers simply add supplies to their maintenance visit orders and we bring everything along.
Our workshops cover a wide range of topics including rooftop garden design, soil preparation and cocopeat usage, composting and vermicomposting, organic pest management, drip irrigation setup, microgreens cultivation, seed saving, and kitchen garden planning. We offer both beginner half-day workshops and advanced full-day programs. Custom workshops for schools, colleges, and corporates are also available on request.
Absolutely. We regularly conduct on-site workshops at schools, colleges, and corporate offices. These can be customised to your curriculum, audience age, and time available. We bring all materials and tools needed. For institutions looking for a longer engagement, we also offer semester-long programs and school garden installation packages. Contact us to discuss your requirements.
Value addition means converting your raw harvest into processed, packaged products that sell at higher prices and have a longer shelf life. For example, fresh coriander can become dried herb powder, and excess tomatoes can become organic paste. We help you with simple processing, packaging design, labelling, and connect you with local buyers and markets. This turns your urban farm from a source of fresh produce into a small income-generating business.
